Electric Power and Battery
The original Thar.e was designed as a born-electric SUV, meaning it was planned around an electric platform rather than simply converting a petrol or diesel SUV into an EV. Mahindra’s INGLO architecture supports large battery packs and both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The company has said its INGLO technology can use batteries in the roughly 60kWh to 80kWh range, with fast charging capability.
However, Mahindra has not announced the final battery size, motor output or driving range for the production Thar-family EV. So, numbers often seen online should be treated as expected figures rather than confirmed specifications.
Range and Charging
Range will be one of the most important things for an electric Thar. Buyers will want enough range for daily city driving as well as long highway trips. Mahindra’s current INGLO technology claims more than 500km of range for some applications, while its EV architecture supports fast charging from 20 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes when using a suitable 175kW DC charger.
If similar technology is used in the future Thar EV, charging could become much easier than many people expect from a large electric SUV.
Off-Road Ability
The biggest question is whether an electric Thar can be as exciting off-road as the current Thar. The answer could be yes, especially if Mahindra offers all-wheel drive.
The Vision T is based on the newer NU_IQ architecture, which can support both electric and internal-combustion powertrains as well as all-wheel drive. Mahindra has also talked about strong ground clearance and off-road-focused angles for vehicles based on this architecture.
Electric motors can also deliver instant torque, which can be useful when climbing steep surfaces or driving over difficult terrain. Still, the final production vehicle will decide how capable it really is.
Interior and Technology
The Thar.e concept had a very futuristic cabin with unusual controls, a modern dashboard and a digital-focused design. Some of those ideas were later seen in Mahindra’s current electric SUVs.
The production version will likely receive a large infotainment display, digital instruments, connected-car technology, advanced driver assistance features and a modern cabin. But the exact equipment has not yet been confirmed.
Expected Price and Launch
There is currently no official price for the Thar.e. The original concept was not a production vehicle, and the Vision T is still a concept preview. Recent reports suggest the production version of the Vision T is expected after 2027, although Mahindra has not announced a final launch date or confirmed that the production SUV will officially be called Thar.e.
This means buyers should be careful with online reports claiming an exact price or launch date.
