Nissan seems ready to take a strong leap forward with its all-new NX8 it provides a look into what the next generation of family cars might look like. Built as part of Nissan’s new “N-Series” lineup, the NX8 is positioned as a premium mid-size SUV that blends electric mobility with everyday practicality.

The NX8 feels like a car designed with modern buyers in mind—people who want space, technology, efficiency, and a future proof car. It sits between the Rogue (X-Trail) and Pathfinder in Nissan’s global lineup, offering a balance of size and features.

Design That Feels Fresh

The NX8 follows Nissan’s latest V-Motion design language and front fascia is clean and minimal, dominated by a full-width LED light bar and a flat illuminated logo. The side profile is sleek, with flush door handles and smooth body lines that improve aerodynamics. At the rear, the OLED tail lamps—made up of over 2,000 lighting units—add a premium touch and allow customizable lighting patterns.

Dimension-wise, the NX8 is quite substantial. At around 4,870 mm in length and with a long wheelbase of nearly 2,917 mm, it offers generous cabin space and this makes it ideal for families who want comfort and interior space.

A Cabin Packed with Technology

Step inside, and the NX8 clearly shows where Nissan is targeting. The dashboard is dominated by dual 15.6-inch screens—one for infotainment and one for the passenger. There’s also a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a massive augmented reality head-up display that stretches across the windshield.

The infotainment system runs on Nissan OS 2.0 and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, which ensures smooth performance and quick response times.

But what really stands out is the attention to comfort. Features like ventilated and massage seats, a built-in refrigerator, and even comes with motion sickness reduction technology. The cabin feels more like a lounge than a traditional car interior, which is exactly what modern EV buyers are looking for.

Powertrain Options: Flexibility is Key

One of the biggest highlights of the NX8 is its dual powertrain strategy. Buyers can choose between a fully electric (BEV) version or a range-extended electric (EREV) version.

The pure electric model offers up to 650 km of range on a single charge, which is more than enough for most daily and even long-distance use.On the other hand, the EREV version adds a petrol engine that acts as a generator. This pushes the total driving range up to an impressive 1,450 km, effectively eliminating range anxiety.

Charging is another strong point. Thanks to its 800V architecture and 5C fast-charging capability, the NX8 can add around 300 km of range in just six minutes under ideal conditions.

Performance and Driving Experience

While Nissan hasn’t focused heavily on outright performance figures, the numbers are still respectable. The electric version produces up to 340 hp and can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in under 7 seconds. The EREV variant offers slightly lower performance but compensates with efficiency and extended usability.

More importantly, the NX8 is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, including LiDAR-based features for semi-autonomous driving. This includes highway and urban navigation assistance, as well as intelligent parking systems.

Practicality for Everyday Use

Despite all the technology, the NX8 doesn’t forget its core purpose as a family SUV. It offers a large 773-litre boot, generous rear seat space, and thoughtful features like climate-controlled storage. The five-seat layout ensures better comfort for passengers, rather than squeezing in a third row  just for the sake of it

Competitors in the Segment

The NX8 enters a highly competitive space, especially in China and global EV markets. Its main rivals include:

  • Tesla Model Y – Known for its strong EV ecosystem and performance
  • BYD Tang EV – Offers competitive pricing and long range
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 – Popular for design and fast charging tech
  • Kia EV6 – Focused on performance and premium features

What sets the NX8 apart is its range-extended option, which none of these direct rivals offer in the same way. This makes it especially appealing in markets where charging infrastructure is still developing.

Will It Come to India?

As of now, the NX8 is primarily targeted at the Chinese market. However, given Nissan’s plans to expand its EV portfolio globally, there is a possibility that the NX8—or a derivative—could make its way to other markets, including India. If launched in India, it could rival premium SUVs in the ₹30–50 lakh range
