If you remember the older BMW i3, it was a small, unusual electric hatchback that stood out for its unique design and eco-friendly approach and can also say that it was ahead of its time. Now, BMW has brought back the i3 name — but this time, it’s completely different and far more futuristic.

The new BMW i3 is no longer a compact hatchback. Instead, it is designed more like an electric version of its popular 3 Series sedan. This means it is bigger, more premium, and built for everyday practicality. In a way, BMW is using this car to show what its future electric cars will look and feel like.

One of the most impressive things about the new i3 is its claimed range. BMW says it can go up to 900 km on a single charge, which is seriously good. For a regular user, this means fewer charging stops and more confidence on long drives. This improvement comes from a new battery setup that is more efficient, charges 30% faster, and stores 20% more energy than before.

Charging is also much quicker now. Thanks to the 800-volt system, the car can add a significant amount of range in just a short time. So even a quick stop during a highway journey could give you enough charge to continue comfortably.

When it comes to design, the new i3 looks very clean and modern. It moves away from traditional BMW styling and instead focuses on a smooth, futuristic appearance. The slim headlights, closed grille, and flush door handles all give it a very sleek look. Compared to the older i3, which looked a bit experimental, this one feels more refined and closer to mainstream luxury cars.

Step inside, and the changes are even more noticeable. The cabin feels fresh and minimal, with very few buttons. Instead of a traditional dashboard, you get a large display area and a very digital experience overall. It almost feels like sitting inside a smart device and using it rather than a conventional car. BMW has also used more eco-friendly materials inside, which continues the sustainability focus that started with the older i3.

Performance is another strong point. Even though it’s electric, BMW hasn’t forgotten its driving DNA. The new i3 is expected to be quick, with strong acceleration and possibly dual-motor options for all-wheel drive. So while it’s efficient, it should still be fun to drive — typically  BMW.

Technology is where this car really stands out. It uses advanced computing systems that control everything from driving to entertainment. The car can also receive updates over time, just like a smartphone, which means it can keep improving even after you buy it.

BMW is also putting a lot of effort into making this car more sustainable. From using recycled materials to improving battery production, the focus is not just on performance but also on reducing environmental impact. The new i3 is expected to go into production around 2026.If it comes to India, it could arrive around 2027.
