There’s a very specific type of buyer in India, the one who wants a proper 7-seater but doesn’t want to stretch to ₹10–12 lakh. Until now, that buyer had only two real choices: either buy Kia Carens or go for Maruti Ertiga.
With the launch of the Nissan Gravite, Nissan has clearly targeted that exact customer. The idea is simple — give maximum practicality at minimum cost. The Gravite is not trying to be premium but with features offered it is surely useful.
Let’s understand what you actually get.

The Real Rival: Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
Now comes the important question. Can starting level MPV really compete with India’s most popular family MPV?
| Factor | Nissan Gravite | Maruti Ertiga |
| Price | Much cheaper | Bit Expensive |
| Engine | 1.0 NA | 1.5 petrol / CNG |
| Power | Low | Strong |
| Space | Compact | Spacious |
| Mileage | Good | Very good |
| Features | Good for price | Better overall |
| Service network | Limited | Excellent |
The Gravite wins on affordability however Ertiga wins on being a more complete car. The Ertiga feels like a proper highway family tourer and Gravite feels like a practical city family car.
My Personal Take After Analysing It
The Gravite is not designed to replace the Ertiga and it’s designed to bring Ertiga-type practicality to people with lower budget.
You buy the Gravite when:
- Budget matters most
- You mainly drive in the city
- You want a real 7-seater under ₹9 lakh
You buy the Ertiga when:
- You travel long distances
- You need performance with load
- You want proven reliability & resale
Final Verdict
The Gravite doesn’t and also cannot beat the Ertiga and it also doesn’t need to however it does complement Ertiga. It opens the 7-seater segment to an entirely new price bracket for first-time buyers and small families, this might actually be the smarter purchase.
