Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast, which has already made headlines for its aggressive expansion plans and exciting EV launches in India, soon will be launching its most interesting offering the VinFast VF 3, a compact, affordable electric vehicle designed primarily for urban commuting.
At first glance, the VF 3 may look like a compact, toy-like SUV, but it actually is a serious attempt to bring electric mobility to the masses. With its small footprint, simple design, and relatively low expected price, the VF 3 could become a real game-changer especially in price-sensitive markets like India.

Design and Styling: Boxy Yet Stylish
The VinFast VF 3 is boxy with upright stance that gives it a mini-SUV appearance rather than a traditional hatchback look. Despite being just over 3 meters long, the vehicle manages to look rugged and purposeful.
The front features a closed-off grille typical of EVs, with a signature chrome strip and the VinFast logo stretching across. The headlights are simple halogen units, keeping costs in check. The squared wheel arches and high ground clearance further enhance its SUV-like appeal.
From the side, its compact proportions are evident. It’s a two-door car very similar to MG Comet. At the rear, the design remains clean with minimal detailing.

Interior and Features: Minimal but Functional
Step inside, and the VF 3 continues its minimalist approach. The cabin is simple, clean, and designed with cost efficiency in mind. However, it still manages to include some modern touches.
The highlight is a 10-inch touchscreen, which doubles as the central infotainment and driver display. The dashboard layout is uncluttered, and the two-spoke steering wheel gives it a slightly unique feel.
The car offers seating for four passengers. While space will naturally be limited due to its compact size, it should be sufficient for short city commutes. The boot space is also modest but usable for daily needs.
In terms of safety, the VF 3 is expected to include essentials like:
- Multiple airbags
- ABS with EBD
- Rear parking sensors
It’s clear that the VF 3 is not about luxury but a compact urban commuter in a modern, electric package.

Performance and Battery: Built for the City
Under the floor—the VinFast VF 3 uses a small electric powertrain designed for efficiency and it comes with a rear-mounted electric motor producing around 39 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. While these numbers may seem low , they are more than adequate for city driving considering the weight of the vehicle which is mere 857 Kg.
The VF 3 uses an 18.64 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of around 200–215 km on a single charge and makes it ideal for daily urban use however not suitable for long highway journeys.
Charging is another strong point. With fast charging support, the battery can go from 10% to 70% in about 36 minutes, which is quite impressive for a car in this segment. The car is also rear-wheel drive and could offer a slightly more engaging driving experience.

Expected Price and India Launch
The VinFast VF 3 is expected to be priced at around ₹7.5 lakh to ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. VinFast has confirmed that the VF 3 will launch in India around 2026, positioning it as one of the most affordable electric SUVs in the country.
Competition: Who Will It Rival?
Once launched in India, the VF 3 will compete with a mix of electric hatchbacks and micro-SUVs. Key rivals include:
- MG Comet EV – Currently one of the smallest EVs in India, focused purely on city use.
- Tata Tiago EV – Offers more space and practicality with a slightly higher price.
- Citroen eC3 – A more conventional EV with better range and size.
Compared to these, the VF 3 stands out with its SUV-like styling and ultra-compact footprint. However, it may fall short in terms of highway usability and its 2 door layout may not be suitable for families.
Final Verdict
For first-time EV buyers, students, or urban commuters, the VF 3 could be an attractive option. However, for families or those needing a versatile car for highways and long trips, it may feel restrictive.
