The popular sub 4meter car Hyundai Venue has now secured a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme). This achievement is particularly important because it shows how manufacturers are aligning their products with current India’s stricter safety benchmarks. Bharat NCAP, which evaluates vehicles based on crash performance for adult and child occupants, has quickly become a crucial parameter for Indian buyers looking to purchase new cars.

A Big Leap in Safety Rating

The earlier versions of the Hyundai Venue had already shown respectable safety standards, earning around 4 stars for adult occupant protection in Global NCAP tests, along with a 3-star score for child safety. However, this new 5-star Bharat NCAP rating shows that Hyundai has gone several steps further with structural improvements and advanced safety tech incorporated in the car.

The latest Venue is built on a reinforced K1 platform, which increases crash energy absorption and improves cabin integrity during collisions. Alongside this, Hyundai has made six airbags standard across all variants, a move that significantly boosts baseline safety—something that was once limited to higher trims in this segment.

Advanced Safety Features ups  the Safety Bar

One of the biggest highlights of the updated Venue is the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Features like forward collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and driver attention warning bring a level of sophistication that was earlier seen only in more expensive SUVs.

Other important safety features include:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)
  • Hill-start assist
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • All-wheel disc brakes
  • 360-degree camera and parking sensors

These features overall play a key role in achieving top scores in crash tests and real-world safety scenarios.

What Bharat NCAP Rating Means

A 5-star rating under Bharat NCAP indicates excellent protection for both adults and children in crash situations. The program evaluates vehicles through frontal, side, and pole impact tests, along with child occupant protection assessments.

While detailed score breakdowns for the Venue are yet to be published, however it has scored  31.15/32 in adult protection and over 44.46/49 in child safety, which gives a clear idea of its structural strength and safety features.

How It stands Against Rivals

The subcompact SUV segment in India is fiercely competitive, with models like the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Maruti Suzuki Brezza battling for attention.

  • Tata Nexon has long been a safety benchmark, also holding 5-star ratings in crash tests.
  • Mahindra XUV 3XO offers strong structural safety and modern features.
  • Kia Sonet, sharing its platform lineage, provides similar features but has been catching up on safety.
  • Maruti Brezza has improved safety in recent updates but still faces perception challenges compared to its rivals.
