Honda is preparing to launch its 1st electric car in India and will be one of the most exciting upcoming models from the Japanese brand is named Honda 0 Alpha and this electric SUV is currently undergoing testing in India. The model is expected to make its official debut around 2027, and it will play a major role in Honda’s long-term electric vehicle strategy for India.
This upcoming SUV is part of Honda’s new “0 Series” electric lineup, which represents the brand’s next generation of EVs. The Honda 0 Alpha promises futuristic design, advanced technology, long driving range, and improved efficiency.
In recent years, Honda has been focusing toward electrification along with its IC lineup of cars. The company has announced plans to launch several electric models worldwide under its new 0 Series platform. These vehicles will be built using Honda’s new design philosophy called “Thin, Light, and Wise.”
This approach focuses on three key ideas:
- Thin: A slim and efficient battery pack design
- Light: Lightweight construction for better performance and range
- Wise: Smart technology and intelligent software systems

The Honda 0 Alpha is one of the first models developed using this philosophy and primary goal is to create EVs that are not only efficient but also fun to drive and technologically advanced.
Honda has officially started road testing of the Honda 0 Alpha in India and this testing programme will evaluate the SUV in different driving conditions and environments across the country like Hot summer , Heavy monsoons and dense urban traffic to list a few.
Testing the SUV in these conditions will help engineers fine-tune its performance, battery efficiency, suspension setup, and cooling systems. The testing programme reportedly began from Honda’s Tapukara manufacturing facility in Rajasthan, which will also likely become the production hub for this electric SUV.
Futuristic Exterior Design
The design of the Honda 0 Alpha looks quite different from current Honda vehicles and also other global manufacturers. When the concept version was first revealed at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, it attracted lots of attention for its futuristic styling.
Some of the design highlights include:
- Sharp and aerodynamic body shape
- Slim LED lighting elements
- Minimal front grille design
- Large wheels with futuristic styling
The SUV will likely feature a closed-off grille, which is common in electric vehicles since they require less airflow than traditional petrol or diesel cars. The overall design focus is on aerodynamics which helps in improve efficiency and also extend driving range.
Modern and Tech-Focused Interior
Inside the cabin, the Honda 0 Alpha is expected to offer a highly digital and futuristic interior. Although Honda has not revealed the final production interior yet, the concept model suggested several advanced features which could also be carried to production variants:
- Large touchscreen infotainment system
- Fully digital instrument cluster
- Minimalist dashboard design
- AI-based voice assistant
- Advanced driver assistance systems
The interior will likely focus on maximizing cabin space, thanks to the flat floor and compact electric drivetrain. This should provide more legroom and a spacious feel for passengers. Comfort and connectivity will also play a major role, with features like wireless smartphone connectivity, connected car technology, and over-the-air software updates expected.

Battery and Range Expectations
While Honda has not officially confirmed the complete technical specifications of the Honda 0 Alpha, early reports suggest that the SUV could offer a driving range of around 450 to 500 kilometres on a single charge. The vehicle is expected to include a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack along with Fast-charging capability and Advanced battery thermal management system.
Fast-charging support will likely allow the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in less than 40 minutes, depending on the charging infrastructure.
Expected Rivals in India
Once launched, the Honda 0 Alpha will enter a rapidly growing and competitive electric SUV market in India. Some of the vehicles it may compete with include:
- MG Windsor
- Mahindra EV
- Maruti e Vitara
The competition in this segment is expected to become very intense by 2027, with several automakers also launching new EV models however Honda’s strong reputation for reliability and engineering could help the 0 Alpha stand out in the market.
Although the official price has not been announced yet, reports suggests that the Honda 0 Alpha could be priced between ₹25 lakh and ₹35 lakh (ex-showroom) when it launches in India and final price will highly depend on factors such as battery size, features, and government EV policies at the time of launch.
